Dare to fail.

It sounds odd, doesn’t it? Maybe even counterintuitive. But sometimes, you have to leave it all out there in life to really #MakeItCount, no matter the risk, no matter the result. Living the dream means doing what you love—and nothing less will ever do. 

It didn’t take long for 29-year-old professional skimboarder and content creator, Amber Torrealba, to figure this out… but it did take a little while.

FROM BUSINESS TO BOARDING

Amber Torrealba didn’t always seem destined to light up Laguna Beach with her talents. The Palm Bay, Florida product first fell in love with skateboarding, but that gave way to an obsession with basketball and track throughout her high school years. And while she did turn to skimboarding at age 17, education came first, and she would go on to study at UCF while balancing the trials and rigors of running her own skateboarding brand (Tyson Peterson was one of her early clients).

Earning her degree didn’t send Amber on a crash course with sports stardom, either. Collegiate life gave way to corporate—she became a business pro, not a boarding pro. Following UCF, she continued managing a million-dollar Radio Shack store; after five years of service there, she started a marketing agency. The path forward seemed set.

Until it wasn’t.

At 25, the realization hit her like a wall of water. Amber wasn’t happy. So, she did what “anyone” would do—she packed up her life, drove cross-country in her economy-sized car, and pursued professional skimboarding and filmmaking in California.

Amber describes the move as the toughest decision of her life. She gambled on herself and her dreams. Turns out, it’d be a winning bet.

Amber found near-immediate success on the pro circuit, coming in hot ranked at #6 in the world by United Skim Tour in 2015 before reigning over the Vic Women's World Championship of Skimboarding the following year. Along the way, the now 3x World Skimboarding Champion grew her video and production rep, producing content for the likes of Red Bull and Adobe. And she’s only picking up steam.
